The Spectacled Dormouse is endemic to South Africa. It was first discovered in 1829 by A. Smith, and since this time very little research has been performed on this particular species. It is currently (2003) listed as a vulnerable species.
This particular rodent weighs around 55 grams. They are silver-grey in colour. They also have black around their eyes thus were given the name of spectacled dormouse.
The spectacled dormouse creates its nest under rocks, bushes or suitable cover.
They produce three or four offspring. The spectacled dormouse is reported to be carnivorous.
